Not disappointingly, EDIROL launched no less than 5 new multi-format/HD products – adding to the new and growing line of affordable high-resolution products.

Now joining the V-440HD Multi-Format Mixer (center) is the PR-1000HD Multi-Format Video Presenter (on left), the VC-200HD/300HD Audio/Video Converter & Breakout (shown on top of the PR-1000HD) and the VC-200HD/300HD Multi-Format Media Converter (on right) – slated for delivery later this year. The VC-200/300HD delivers bi-directional conversion between component HD, HDV/DV, and with the VC-300HD model, HD/SD-SDI. Also, the VC line provides audio delay adjustments in millisecond or frame increments for lip/audio sync with the video source as well as in/out sync terminals allowing GEN lock with external devices. The VC-300HD adds the ability to embed the audio in the HD/SD-SDI stream. EDIROL is one of the first product lines to offer real-time encoding and conversion between any analog, HDV/DV or SDI source. The VC product is an ideal companion piece for the V-440HD mixer allowing the component output and audio to be converted to HDV or HD-SDI.

The PR-1000HD is a real-time digital video playback system designed for high resolution video display/performances. Designed for use in any live event, the PR-1000HD allows instantaneous recall of hundreds of HD and SD video clips as well as still images. Regardless of the original format, the PR-1000HD scales video from the DVI terminal as a variety of HD, SD or RGB formats. The PR-1000HD builds on the popular EDIROL PR-50/80, which have become a standard in many concert tours and live worship applications.

As a perfect companion piece to any PC/Mac NLE or the PR-1000HD, the VC-200/300HD models supports bi-directional conversion of a video signal from various DVI formats to various output formats and resolutions including 1080p component & DVI as well as RGB formats from VGA to UXGA. In addition, the DV-300HD model allows output at HD/SD-SDI rates with the ability to embed the audio stream.

The V-440HD Multi-Format Mixer continued to show its appeal by allow attendess tio play with 8 sources SD and HD include the new HD remote camera from Sony (BRC-700), JVC HD Pro Deck, EDIROL PR-1000HD Multi-Format Presenter and a Mac PowerBook.

The main demonstration stage had two V-440HD’s connected to show the multi-screen support. This worked very well with the PR-1000HD, aptly splitting the HD format video across the two 61” NEC plasmas. In addition, the output of on the the V-440HD mixers was being encoded in realtime to HDV – recorded by the Sony HVR-10U.

Another enlightening demonstration to many attendees was the R-4 Four-Channel Field Recorder connected to the Sony HVR-A1U HDV camera via LANC. Whenever you hit record, pause, stop… the R-4 follows along. HDV cameras record audio in a compressed format (MPEG 1 Layer II) – so the R-4 solves this problem by providing up to four tracks of 24/96 audio that matches the video being captured. When it is time to edit, simply plug the R-4 into your PC/Mac via USB2 and drag/drop you audio files over to your NLE timeline.

On display for the first time to the NAB crowd was the latest version of the Direct Linear Digital Video Editing Systems – the DV-7DL PRO Studio Edition . This full featured editing solution includes many new and expanded features, including new effects for transitions, filters, composition, audio, and titling. The A/B roll of the PRO Studio Edition has been redesigned into an “Infinity Roll” offering the utmost in ease and ability when mixing multiple cameras. The PRO Studio Edition also offers advanced title effects such as rotate, stretch, blur, and zoom blur. With Vari-Speed playback, the user can adjust video playback speed to change over time. Real-time color correction has been augmented to now include a Vector Scope and Waveform Monitor for broadcast applications.

The three-screen PR-80 setup was again a hit showing people the ease and power of a multi-screen setup.
